Aside from the master control panels of the different burglar alarms, the keypad is a primary component because you and every one of your family members will have access to it and use it on a regular basis. The alarms that are currently available on the market today all have these and they are an integral part of your system when it comes to protecting your home from a burglar and their intentions. You need at least one keypad in order to communicate with your burglar alarms, but you can have multiples.
This is especially necessary if you use multiple entry points into your home. Many homeowners will place one at either the front door or the entry way into the home from the garage. Others will put one in both locations and even in a rear entryway. Suffice it to say, no matter which entryway you use, you will have the ability to disarm your burglar alarms from any entryway into your home.
Other individuals have also gained more peace of mind by having a keypad installed in the master bedroom so that they know their burglar alarms are armed before they fall asleep at night. Additionally, a keypad that is externally mounted in a secure location enables keyless entry into your home for all members of your family. Plus, if it is visible to a burglar, they will know your home is protected by one of these alarms and most likely avoid trying to break in.
Like the MCP (master control panel), burglar alarms and key pads come in a variety of sophistication ranging from the extremely basic to the highly sophisticated. The basic keypad uses a series of light emitting diode (LED) lights whereas others will use a liquid crystal display (LCD). The latter is manufactured with a window that displays the different operating modes of your system so that you know when it is armed, disarmed, or in other modes.
Some of the other features of the more sophisticated burglar alarms and their keypads are lit buttons that are easily read when it is dark, single buttons for immediate arming and disarming, or even buttons that when pressed alert emergency responders (fire, medical, and police). Another feature to look for is that the keypad should be easily programmable so that every person in the home that is using your system has their own security code.
